The Mountain West Youth Track and Field Club is located in Missoula, Montana. It is a newly formed division of the prestigious Mountain West Track Club, which has been developing and supporting elite level athletes for over 20+ years.
Our goal in starting the Youth division is to provide young athletes with a support system that will give them a better opportunity to pursue competitive track/cross-country year-round. Also, to provide athletes with experienced coaching that will give them an unprecedented advantage in developing their skills in the sport of track and field. This may open doors for them to make National teams and perhaps even earn an athletic scholarship at the university level.
We have already helped numerous young athletes compete successfully at the state, regional and national levels. Mountain West Youth Track Club (MWYTC) is affiliated with, USA Track and Field and Junior Olympics.
Our Mission is to encourage and help young people develop:
Physically: by learning skills related to the sport of track and field and improving their physical strength and conditioning.
Emotionally: by building their feelings of self-esteem and confidence by recognizing their individual achievements.
Socially: by having fun, forming bonds of friendships, and learning good sportsmanship.
Technically: by learning the fundamentals of track and field and developing specific athletic skills and abilities.
Club Goals:
• To provide young athletes with a support system that will give them a better opportunity to pursue competitive track/cross-country year-round.
• To provide athletes with experienced coaching that will give them an unprecedented advantage in developing their skills in the sport of track and field.
• To install confidence in young athletes to set goals and believe they can make National teams and perhaps even pursue track and field at a collegiate level.
• To encourage an understanding of the importance of a healthy active lifestyle they can carry into adulthood.
Coaching Philosophy:
First and foremost, our coaches place the emotional and physical well-being of the athletes ahead of any personal desires or ambitions. Our coaching philosophy focuses on the long-term development of young athletes. We want to build athletes, not exhaust them or burn them out. We understand and emphasize keeping it fun while taking precautions to stay injury free. We encourage our athletes to set goals for themselves. When they want to work hard, we are ready to work with them.
